Yurtle the turtle

Today, while feeding the ducks after going to the zoo, the kids found a little turtle.

Bug was super fascinated, and Bub immediately tried to stomp on it. Thank heavens he has sub par aim!

Yummy delicious treats

Nearly every morning, right when the kids first wake up, we spend a few minutes watching cartoons in bed as a family. I enjoy the extra rest and super cuddly kids. A few days ago, while we were watching, an advertisement came on showing how to make freezer pops with yogurt and berries. Ever since she saw the ad, Bug has been convinced we needed to make these "yummy delicious treats." So yesterday, we dug out the old IKEA popsicle molds, raided one of AJs yogurts and did just that. They were a hit, and kept them both occupied for a good 20 minutes, which is also an added bonus.

And of course, a post popsicle dance party in the driveway.

Our go to outing

With the cold and wet weather, we haven't been able to enjoy our go to outing : feeding the ducks (and by ducks I mean pigeons) and going to the zoo (and by going to the zoo I mean riding the carousel). Since our plans to pick berries and visit a local farm were cancelled due to muddy and wet ground at the farm, we decided instead to brave the crazy Spring Break crowd and give the zoo a go.

Since it is Spring Break, we got to the zoo right when it opened at 9 and got the last parking spot in the main lot. First stop was to feed the ducks the crusts of the bread I'd been saving for the past few weeks. It is so fun to see how excited they get to feed the pigeons, and only a little heart attack inducing when they go running full steam towards the water. Thankfully, we've not had any mishaps yet ... knock on wood.

Get the bread bird!!
After feeding the birds, we continued into the zoo. We always see the Meerkats, Elephants, Monkeys and then ride the carousel. The carousel is definitely Pumpkin's favorite part, and she still gets excited every time we turn the corner and she sees that it is working (it hasn't been closed since August, but she is always worried it will be closed again and gets so happy when it is open).

Since it was Spring Break, she didn't get to ride the Leopard (her current favorite) but was just as happy on an African Deer. Though you'd never guess it from the lack of smiles I was getting (of course as soon as the carousel started moving she was like a giddy school girl).

Typically the carousel is the end of our zoo trip, but this trip we continued on to the children's zoo to pet the goats and play in the play area. Both kiddos were very excited to pet the goats, and Bubba kept hitting one poor, very patient, goat in the ear and saying "HI GOAT!!" All in all we had so much fun we might just go back tomorrow too :)

Spring Break 2015

This week is Houston's Spring Break, and to kick it off, we took the kiddos down to Galveston for the day on Saturday. The weather has been so gloomy and cold recently, and with a beautiful day forecasted it seemed like the perfect opportunity. While it was warm, it was in no means hot, and I had no intention for anyone to actually swim. Bug on the other hand had different plans. This girl is a fish and would not leave the house until she was assured I had packed both her and Bubba's swimming suits.

We got an early start to the day and made it to Galveston around 10:30 right as the ferry was getting ready to leave (we were one of the last cars on). Perfect timing. I had only been to Galveston one other time (when Pumpkin was ~15 months) and had never taken the ferry. Both kids enjoyed the short trip, seeing all the seagulls and big ships. We had a near miss when Bubba nearly went out the port hole --- thank goodness AJ grabbed him before he fell.

Once off the ferry we explored a little park, used by the military to defend against German attacks back during the war. Sadly it was still pretty muddy and the kids didn't get to play at the playground and had quite the fit. As luck would have it, we didn't have to wait for the ferry going back either and were able to quickly cross back over to the island and go explore the beach.

I didn't think we would actually be swimming, thank goodness AJ brought his swim suit because these kids LOVED it. Bubba was freezing after 20-30 minutes, and I'm sure Bug was too, but she would have stayed out there for a long time had we let her. I see multiple beach trips this summer in her future. I'll just wait a bit until its warm enough that I can get in to help. :)

Right before a huge wave tipped Bubba over and AJ had to scramble to get him upright, while not dropping Bug.

Smarty Pants

Today, while Bubba was eating lunch, Bubba was taking forever so I told him he could take one more bite of his sandwich but then it was time to take a nap. His reply, stuff the entire thing in his mouth. At least I know he's listening - and problem solving :)

And yes, I know, we're still in PJs at noon, don't judge, it's freezing so we have no where to go.

Also from today, these pictures were all taken within 2 minutes. This girl is definitely not lacking in the personality department.

And then she was really done. Haha.
