The past 24 hours ave been much more eventful than I'd hoped. We had a bee swarm take up temporary residence in the eve above our front door.
For scale, I took this picture at about 6 pm, by 7 pm it had grown about 5 in on each side. It was huge. And terrifying.
After a lot of googling, the good news was bee swarms are actually mostly harmless, since they aren't protecting anything. It's kind of like a big bee family reunion. Even so, I wanted them gone. After talking with 5 or so different options from collection to extermination, I got in contact with Mark, the 'Busy Bee' handyman. He is also a beekeeper and he was available to come get the swarm and relocate them to his honey farm in Katy :)
It was amazing really. He got up on the ladder in his bee outfit and then just vacuumed up all te bees.
It took about 20 minutes to vacuum up all the bees, and when he was done we got to see them up close. He said you could actually pick them up in this state and they wouldn't sting you ( tho I wouldn't try it).
At this point, 24 hrs later, most of the bees are gone, only a sad few that must have been out scouting a new home when everyone else was taken. I'm actually a little sad for them (not sad enough to want the rest back, but a little sad). Mostly I'm just happy this bee saga is *hopefully over.
